How it Works

Smartbid Auctions are where products/services are placed on auction with the following rules:

Bids are accepted in South African rands and cents e.g. R1.21 (one rand and twenty one cents).
Whilst the auction is open bids are kept secret.
Once the auction closes, the bidder with the lowest Unique Bid wins the product/service on auction for their bid amount.
A Unique Bid is an amount at which no other bidder has bid.
There is no cost to place a bid. Every bidorbuy user automatically receives one free bid on every new item placed on Smartbid Auction and can earn additional bids by performing certain actions. How to Earn Additional Bid Credits.

For example, if a closed Smartbid Auction had received bids as follows:

Bid 1: R0.01
Bid 2: R0.01
Bid 3: R0.01
Bid 4: R0.02
Bid 5: R0.02
Bid 6: R0.03
Bid 7: R0.03
Bid 8: R0.04
Bid 9: R0.05
Bid 10: R0.05

Then the bidder that submitted Bid 8 would win the product/service for R0.04 because it is the Lowest Unique Bid.

Unique Bid. From all the bids received for a particular Smartbid Auction, the system cancels out all equal bid amounts and selects those that are the only bids at that amount from all bidders. These are regarded to be Unique Bids. A winner is then selected from these unique bids i.e. the Lowest Unique Bid.

How to Earn Additional Bid Credits.

Every bidorbuy user is automatically eligible to place one free bid on every new Smartbid Auction that is listed. For each user that you introduce to bidorbuy SmartBid you will receive an additional 3 bids to place on any Smartbid item of your choice (use the SmartBid Invite Friends tool to do this). This is in addition to up to R150 cash per confirmed registered user you are also eligible to earn through the bidorbuy Affiliate Programme.
